Edgbasten: In the seventh match of ICC champions trophy under the Duckworth Lewis method Pakistan won the match against south Africa.
During a match played between south Africa and Pakistan at Edgbasten ground of Birmingham, south Africa gave Pakistan the target of 220 runs, in reply to which Pakistan team scored 119 at the loss of 3 wickets in 27 overs when the match had to be stopped due to rain. When the match could not be restarted due to rain the decision of the match was made using the Duckworth method and Pakistan won the match by 19 runs to get 2 points.
The Pakistan innings was started by Fakher Zaman and Azher Ali who made the partnership of 40 runs after which Fakher Zaman was caught out at Morne Morkel’s ball by Hashim Amla.He made 31 runs, after Fakher the wicket of Azher Ali fell in the same over at 9 runs. Muhammad Hafeez and Baber Azam played slowly and made the partnership of 52 runs but Hafeez ‘s wicket fell after making 26 on 52 balls. Baber Azam and Shoaib Malik took the score of the team to 119 when the rain stopped the play.
In the first innings of the match the south African captain AB deVilliers won the toss and elected to bat. Two amazing batsmen Hashim Amla and De kock started the game for south Africa but the man who made a century in his last match Hashim Amla lost his wicket after making 16 runs to Ammad Wasim. Muhammad Hafeez took the wicket of De kock .DE Villiers was bowled out on duck by Ammad Wasim du Plessis and David miller were able to develop a partnership of 29 runs. Hassan ali bowled Plessis out on 26 runs, Hassan Ali also sent JP Duminy back to pavilion on 8 runs. Hassan ali also took the wicket of Parnell. David Miller and Chris Morris made a partnership of 47 runs and stabilized their team but in his very next over Junaid took the wicket of Morris for 28 runs. Rabada was also out on 26 runs. David Miller remained not out till the end of the game with 75 runs.
Among Pakistani bowlers Hassan ali took 3 wickets for 24 runs in his 8 overs. Junaid khan and Ammad Wasim both took 2 wickets each.
Both the teams last played against each other in 2015 world cup in which using the Duckworth method Pakistan won the match by 29 runs.
